This 501-c-3 nonprofit foundation commemorates the life of a Green Beret from Kirksville, Missouri, who was killed in action on Nov. 4, 2016, while serving his country in Jordan. He was 27 years old.

In his father’s words, “Matt was a Super Hero” with special comedic powers. As a young boy he wanted to grow up to be a comedian and he used his humor throughout his life to create bonds between himself and the people he led. While a student at the University of Kansas, he decided that he wanted to use his super powers for the good of his country, and in 2010 he enlisted in the Army.

A Special Forces munitions expert and decorated member of the Fifth Group stationed at Fort Campbell, Matt served in Afghanistan and earned the Bronze Star, which he kept tucked away in the cereal cabinet of his home in Nashville. After he and two other Special Forces members, Staff Sgt. James Moriarty and Staff Sgt. Kevin McEnroe were murdered by a Jordanian officer who ambushed them as they re-entered the base. Matt was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star with one oak leaf cluster.

This foundation remembers the boy who dreamed of adventure and who loved God, his Family and our Nation. His ultimate sacrifice is honored annually by endowing scholarships in Sgt. First Class Matthew Charles Lewellen’s name.

Each year a Patriot Day golf fundraising event is held in Matt’s hometown of Kirksville. To make a donation in his honor, click here.
